We are in China as English teachers, so we will be earning a small salary and will have housing provided for us by our university.
However, since we are going to China as members of a non-profit organization (Jian Hua Foundation), we can still raise support for things that are a bit outside of the range of our meager teacher salaries. This year, our goal is to raise support for the following items:
- Association Fee: Jian Hua charges us a small annual fee for administrative costs, about $900 to cover the cost of both of us being part of the organization.
- International Health Insurance: Having an international plan with a respected company gives us much better coverage than the campus-provided doctor at our school, but it’s also expensive for our meager salaries. The cost for both of us to have insurance for the year is about $3500.
- Winter Conference: Every year Jian Hua hosts a winter conference for associates, either in Hong Kong or in Thailand. We attended the conference last year in Hong Kong, and it was a much-needed time to fellowship with other people in Jian Hua and to take a break from some of the daily challenges of living in mainland China. Conference is a time of recharging and refreshing for us, but if we don’t raise support to go, our budget for this year won’t allow it. The estimated cost for both of us to attend the conference this year is $2000.
If you would like to make tax-deductible (in the US) donations to support us, you can write checks to “Jian Hua Foundation.” Please do not include our names anywhere on the check. Instead, print this form and send it with your donation so they know to use it for our support.
