Ever since I was old enough to remember anything, I’ve been obsessed with Asian martial arts. I remember seeing my first Kung Fu movie about a gang of misfit heroes who have to band together to take down the army of enemies. In the last scene, the heroes are climbing a rope up a cliff, and as soon as one hero reaches the top, he has to fight off the bad guys to keep them from cutting the rope. Unfortunately, he dies just as the next hero steps onto the precipice. Watching that, I remember thinking, “That is so badass.” Or whatever the equivalent was in my 8 year old mind. I didn’t learn to swear until later.
I have continued my obsession by training over the years. I’ve earned my black belt in Hapkido, Tang Soo Do, and Taekwondo. Currently I’m training in wushu (or Kung Fu, as some call it) in hopes that, one day, I can be as badass as those heroes in that original movie.
By trade, I would consider myself an Internet Marketer. In this business, that’s short for “everything from website building to email marketing to image manipulation.” I’m not writing that to boast, it’s just that when people ask me, “So, what exactly is it that you do?” they usually lose interest by my 3rd powerpoint slide.
I am a Christian, and if you had to back me into a corner I’d call myself an Evangelical. Honestly though, I don’t agree with the Jerry Falwells or Pat Robertsons of the world. I believe in a God that heals the blind, changes broken lives, is fair in His judgments, and loves unconditionally. I am a member of a diverse, imperfect, caring and worldwide family known as the Church. He has called me to a life of service to others. I’m not sure what that looks like, but I know it has something to do with loving your neighbor. I’m still trying to figure it out.
